PokerTips.org & "Burke Pins"

Today, I would like to share with you a good "starting" website when learning the basic strategies of Texas Holem'. I found this website to be very useful, so feel free to check it out: PokerTips.org.

Always, Remember...It is better to start off and play "tight-aggressive", especially when you are first learning. This means that you play only the "good hands"(this is where the tight comes in), and you play them like you have the nuts! (this is where the aggressiveness comes in). Do not try to bluff until you get the hang of things.

NOW, Without further to do: It is a fact, just like my poker theme song, "The Gambler" Kenny Rogers. YOU DO HAVE TO "KNOW" WHEN TO HOLDEM' AND "KNOW" WHEN TO FOLDEM'.

A good thing that I discovered the other day was something called, "Burke Pins"....I have adapted it a bit....and this will help you to distinquish which are good starting hands and which are not. (It is important to have the basic idea of what good cards are though too...I will cover some of that more in another blog). But the idea of "Burke Pins" is a point system that helps you to determine "playable" starting (pocket or hole) cards.
A = 14
K = 13
Q = 12
J = 11
10 = 10
9 = 9
8 =8
7 = 7
6 = 6
5 = 5
4 = 4
3 = 3
2 = 2

Now that you know what the points are for each card, which are easy to remember, you are ready to calculate. The magic number is "19". Basically, It is as simple as this...if your hole cards add up to 19, then consider them "playable" (of course you have to take into account if there has been any raises and is it worth the amount of investment). But no doubt, this is definately...a good starting point for determining good playable starting cards. BUT! That's not all to the point system. There is "three" other things that you must remember and they are as follows:

Add an extra 1 pt. if suited
Add an extra 1 pt. if connectors
Add an extra 3 pts. for pairs

There ya go...That's it for today....Let's GO ALL IN!
